{"id":1350,"date":"2023-02-02T02:35:41","date_gmt":"2023-02-02T02:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newengland.ams-net.org\/?p=1350"},"modified":"2023-02-02T02:47:56","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T02:47:56","slug":"sea-shanties-from-ship-to-shore-saturday-march-4-2023-peabody-essex-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newengland.ams-net.org\/?p=1350","title":{"rendered":"Sea Shanties: From Ship to Shore (Saturday March 4, 2023, Peabody Essex Museum)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The New England Chapter of the AMS has organized an event for<em> The<\/em> <em>Many Musics of America<\/em> <em>Project<\/em> sponsored by the AMS national office and funded by a grant from the National Writing Project through the National Endowment for the Humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Organized in partnership with the AMS New England Chapter and the world-renowned\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pem.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Peabody Essex Museum<\/a>, this event will explores the history of sea shanties and new England\u2019s maritime history with live music-making interspersed with short public lecture-demonstrations. The event will feature\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/manymusics.amsmusicology.org\/artist\/james-revell-carr\/\">James Revell Carr<\/a>, Associate Professor and Director of the John Jacob Niles Center for American Music at the University of Kentucky, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/manymusics.amsmusicology.org\/artist\/pallas-catenella\/\">Pallas Catenella<\/a>, PhD candidate at the Eastman School of Music and scholar of maritime music and 19th-century operatic technologies. The event will also include brief remarks from Evan MacCarthy, President of the AMS New England Chapter and Five College Visiting Assistant Professor Musicology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pem.org\/about-pem\/curators\/daniel-finamore-the-russell-w-knight-curator-of-maritime-art-and-history\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Finamore<\/a>, Associate Director \u2013 Exhibitions, The Russell W. Knight Curator of Maritime Art and History at the PEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">This event will be held at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pem.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peabody Essex Museum<\/a> on Saturday, 4 March 2023 at 1:00pm.
